Glute Medius Spasm Relief

  1. Lie on your side with one leg in front of the other, toe down on the ground.
  2. Identify a localized area of spasm or knot in your glute medius.
  3. Apply pressure to this point (e.g., with a lacrosse ball or thumb).
  4. Perform leg raises, moving the top leg down and back, while maintaining pressure on the spasm point.

Glute Medius Strengthening (Hip Bump)

  1. Stand with one side of your body against a wall.
  2. Stand on the leg furthest away from the wall.
  3. Allow your hips to drop towards the floor on the side away from the wall.
  4. Slide your hip back towards the wall, lifting your pelvis to a level position using the glute medius of the standing leg.

The 'Old Man' Test for Longevity

  1. Place your sock and shoe for one foot on the floor in front of you, untied and loose.
  2. Stand on one foot.
  3. Lean over, pick up the sock, and put it on.
  4. Pick up the shoe, put it on, and tie it.
  5. Only after the shoe is tied, place the foot down.
  6. Repeat the process for the other foot.

Side Plank with Leg Raise Test

  1. Assume a side plank position, supporting yourself on one forearm or hand, with heels stacked.
  2. Raise the top leg up to approximately 45 degrees.
  3. Hold this position for as long as possible, aiming for 30 seconds, observing for shaking or sagging of the bottom hip.

Neck Training (Plate and Towel Method)

  1. Wrap a 5 or 10-pound plate in a soft towel for comfort.
  2. Lie on your back on a bench with your head off the edge, place the weighted towel on your forehead.
  3. Allow your head to lean back, then flex your neck to bring your head back to neutral, pulling your chin down to stabilize.
  4. Turn onto your stomach, place the weighted towel on the back of your head, allow your head to sink forward, then extend your neck back up to neutral or slightly beyond.
  5. Turn onto your side, place the weighted towel on the opposite side of your head, allow your head to bend laterally, then lift it back to neutral.
  6. Perform very slow, controlled repetitions for each direction, starting with one round and gradually increasing as strength improves.
